Happy Meet Me In St Louis Day!

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Today is the anniversary of the release of one of my favourite bands of recent times; Meet Me In St Louis’ “Variations on Swing“. To celebrate, fans everywhere are asked to get out their copy of said record and give it a spin (loud). Here’s the best bit though, if you don’t have the record you can now download it for free courtesy of Big Scary Monsters and NME. Do it!

Here’s some stuff I found on the internet recently that caught my attention and I thought were good/TTNG related. Why not have a watch/listen/read?

AMERICA/CANADA (well the North East anyhow) Easter 2010

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

It would appear asthough waiting for Muse/U2/Radiohead/Iron Maiden to offer to take us out on tour with them in the US hasn’t really worked out as planned. We can’t be bothered waiting any longer and have decided that if we don’t plan it soon, it’ll never happen. With that in mind we’ve decided we’d like to play these places on these dates next year:

Sat 03/27/10 Chicago
Sun 03/28/10 Chicago
Mon 03/29/10 Grand Rapids/Ann Arbor
Tue 03/30/10 Grand Rapids/Ann Arbor
Wed 03/31/10 Toronto
Thu 04/01/10 Montreal
Fri 04/02/10 Boston
Sat 04/03/10 New York
Sun 04/04/10 New York
Mon 04/05/10 New York
Tue 04/06/10 Philadelphia
Wed 04/07/10 Baltimore/Fredrick
Thu 04/08/10 Washington/College Park
Fri 04/09/10 Pittsburgh
Sat 04/10/10 Columbus

If you yourself can help with getting us a show or you know someone who can help, please get in touch and email both ourselves at thistownneedsguns at hotmail dot com and thegrandtheftottomanempire at gmail dot com. We will be taking out tour support and with a bit of luck might even be able to hook up a few shows with one or two other SH bands. Fingers crossed. The dates are in the week before and after Easter (so keep that in mind if you think the holidays might affect turnouts and what not).

The dates above are in no way definitive, but should provide a rough guide of where we want to be at certain points on the tour. There is room for some switching around, but not much.

This may all go horribly wrong and be a bit of a false start, but basically we’re trying to do this on our own. We don’t have any financial help and a team of thousands helping us out. Please offer whatever help you can…if you can (whether it be pointing us in the direction of a promoter friend of yours, or offering to ’spread the word’ about a show we’re playing near you). Any help will be gratefully received and will be rewarded where possible.
