So I haven’t done one of these in a while and seeing as we’re all busy moving house and there isn’t an awful lot of news it makes sense to write something:

Planets - They’re a bit Lightning Bolt-esque, but very good. Definintely worth a listen.
Tera Melos - I’m pretty sure most of you will have heard of these guys, but if not then give them a listen. They’re pretty nuts.

So we played Truck at the weekend

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

We played a few gigs at the weekend, both of which were pretty ace. Friday night we made the trip to Trowbridge. We took Jamie along for the ride and he was kind enough to man the merch table all night and sell the new badges he has designed for us. They look well swish :-)

The other bands (Soria and run, WALK!) were really cool and we played to a full room, which is always fun. Quite a lot of people seemed to know the words to the songs which was both unexpected and nice. There was a guy (Josh) there who took some pretty ace photos (see below) and it was all very DIY/Rock ‘n Roll. I love gigs like that.

Next morning we made our way to Truck festival. This was my 3rd time attending and 1st time playing. After worrying all morning that we wouldn’t get there in time thanks to some pretty savage queing, all was well in the end. We played to a full Barn audience (or at least it looked full from where I was standing), but we only had time for 5 songs :-( It was pretty gutting especially as it meant we didn’t have time to play 26…but ‘thems the breaks’. We looked a bit like this:

The rest of the day is a bit of a blur. Rolo Tomassi were excellent, but it was pretty dissapointing having to miss Jonquil. I comforted myself however, with the knowledge that we will see them every night for 10 days later in the year :-) Youthmovies sounded pretty damn good as well. I haven’t seen them play in ages, so I’m glad I got the chance to see them again.

I didn’t really bother watching anyone else. The hangover kicked in at 8 o’clock on Saturday evening. I tried to carry on, but at 10 I conceded defeat and went home. Still…good times.

If you have any photos/videos of us from the weekend, please get in touch. Cheers.

We have a new bass player

Friday, July 4th, 2008

So last night we had a practice with a good friend of ours. It was pretty damn good. The result of this practice was that we now have a new bass player. Jamie has been a friend of ours for quite a while now and was one of only two people that we knew who we asked to play for us. We are very pleased that he has joined.

There were a whole bunch of people who contacted us in the hope of playing. We tried a few people out who were all really good, but Jamie has nailed every song we’ve asked him to play and has brought the dedication we required. Couple that with the fact that he is already one of our friends we just couldn’t say no.

I’m really sorry to all those people that didn’t get a chance to try out. I suppose the only good thing is that no-one had to travel 100+ miles to spend an afternoon in a sweaty room with us. Thank you to all those that got in touch. It was really amazing that so many talented people contacted us and were so eager to join.

For those of you that don’t know, Jamie is also a member of the Oxford band Hreda. If you haven’t already, I suggest that you check them out.
